Le projet, annoncé initialement en 2017 avec Donnie Yen attaché à Star, a disparu un an plus tard. Yen a récemment confirmé son annulation, citant des années de temps, d'efforts et de fonds personnels investis, pour voir le projet passer en raison de la nature imprévisible d'Hollywood.
L'intervention de Liu ravive l'espoir de la franchise d'action de Hong Kong. Cependant, le succès de son effort pour assurer les droits ou faire revivre le film reste incertain.
