Garenaの新作『Free City』が、東南アジア・中東・アフリカ地域で事前登録を開始。人気オープンワールドゲームの次章を待ち望むファンに向けた挑戦的作だ。
6月30日リリース予定の本作は、Garena版GTAと評されることも。一見ありきたりなモバイル版GTAクローンに見えるが、注目すべき点もある。
まず驚くのはキャラクターカスタマイズの深さ——Sims風に細部まで調整可能。GTAのリアリズムとは異なり、巨大ロボットや戦闘用ポップアップカバーなど派手な要素が特徴だ。
ビビッド＆型破りな世界
ただし『Free City』はGTAオンラインのシステムを多く借用しており、独自の奇抜さを活かし切れていない印象。実はその"変わり種"要素が最大の魅力なのだが。
タイミング的にも厳しい状況。近々リリース予定の『Ananta』も広大な世界観と型破りサブクエストを売りにしており、さらに境界線を押し広げようとしている。『Free City』は埋もれるリスクを抱える。
『Ananta』のアニメテイストが万人受けするとは限らないが、確実に独自の地位を築きつつある。『Free City』の残念な点は、差別化の可能性を最大限に追求していないことだ。
