Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts were once set to embark on an extraordinary journey beyond Earth's atmosphere with a planned DLC set on the Moon. Although this ambitious expansion was ultimately shelved, the diligent efforts of blogger and dataminer SirMZK have unearthed a trove of leaks and files from the game's code, offering a glimpse into CD Projekt RED's cosmic vision.
Within the game's files, intriguing references to lunar surface maps, structured zones such as the Exterior Movie Set and Drug Lab, and a rover model were discovered. The Moon was envisioned to be a vast open-world area, potentially covering a quarter of the size of Night City. This would have introduced an entirely new dimension to the gameplay, transporting players from the familiar neon-lit streets to the uncharted expanses of space.
A standout feature of the proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Though it never materialized in the final game, players can briefly see the Crystal Palace in one of the endings when V gazes out of a spaceship window. Furthermore, the files revealed a prototype for a zero-gravity bar connected to a cut quest named "201," which was intricately linked to the Arasaka storyline.
Fans remain hopeful that some of these captivating concepts might find a new life in CD Projekt RED's upcoming project, Orion, which aims to further expand the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio has yet to officially confirm whether these ideas will be revisited.
While the Moon DLC remains a lost opportunity for now, the uncovered details offer a tantalizing vision of what could have been—an audacious venture for Cyberpunk 2077 into unexplored territory, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's distinctive cyberpunk aesthetic.
