"Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Leaves BioWare"

Corinne Busche, the director behind Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly set to leave EA-owned BioWare in the coming weeks, according to Eurogamer. Busche, who joined BioWare in 2019 after working on The Sims projects at Maxis, served as the game director for Dragon Age: The Veilguard from February 2022 until its launch last year. IGN has reached out to EA for further comment on this departure.

Since its release in October last year, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has faced scrutiny over its success. Eurogamer notes that despite Busche's exit, the studio remains unaffected by other significant changes. The game's development journey was detailed in IGN’s article, ‘How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade,’ which highlighted the game's evolution from a multiplayer concept to a fully realized single-player RPG. Busche played a crucial role in steering the project to completion during its final years.

Eurogamer also clarified that Busche's departure from BioWare is not linked to Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s commercial performance. EA has yet to disclose whether the game's sales and revenue met or exceeded expectations, with the company set to announce its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4.

Meanwhile, BioWare has shifted its focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard DLC and towards the development of Mass Effect 5, which has been teased but not fully revealed. In August 2023, amidst the release of Larian's Baldur’s Gate 3, BioWare laid off around 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby.

These layoffs were part of a broader restructuring at EA, which saw the company split into sports and non-sports divisions. Amidst these changes, rumors circulated about BioWare's potential acquisition, and Star Wars: The Old Republic was transitioned to a third-party service, allowing BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The journey of Dragon Age: The Veilguard continued with its reveal in 2024, which initially received negative feedback, prompting BioWare to release an early gameplay teaser. The name change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard also drew mixed reactions, though subsequent impressions were generally positive.

As Dragon Age fans look to the future, many wonder if BioWare will have the opportunity to create another sequel in the series following The Veilguard.
