The success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard is undeniable, yet unsettling news from BioWare has emerged. Recent online chatter, originating from sources described as "agenda fighters," suggested the closure of BioWare Edmonton and the departure of The Veilguard's game director.
Eurogamer journalists corroborate at least part of this, confirming the departure of Corinne Boucher in the coming weeks. Boucher, an 18-year EA veteran, predominantly worked on The Sims franchise.
However, Eurogamer clarifies that the rumored closure of The Veilguard's development studio remains purely speculative.
Critical reception of The Veilguard is mixed. Some hail it as a triumphant return to form for BioWare, while others, while acknowledging its merits as a solid RPG, find it lacking in true greatness.
At the time of writing, Metacritic shows no overwhelmingly negative reviews. Many reviewers lauded the engaging and dynamic action RPG gameplay, particularly challenging at higher difficulty levels.
Yet, this praise isn't universal. VGC, for example, criticized the gameplay as feeling outdated and lacking innovation.
