Legendary Pokémon Arrive in Pokémon GO
Black and White Kyurem's Grand Entrance
Following the December 2024 announcement of the Unova Tour (February 2025), Niantic has revealed the exciting addition of Black Kyurem, White Kyurem, and Shiny Meloetta.
From February 21st to 23rd, 2025, attendees of the in-person events in New Taipei City, Taiwan, and Los Angeles, USA, can capture and fuse Kyurem into its powerful Black and White forms. To begin, trainers must defeat either Black or White Kyurem in five-star raids to obtain the base Kyurem form.
Once you've caught Kyurem, you can fuse it with either Zekrom or Reshiram to unlock its alternate form. This fusion also grants Kyurem access to new, devastating attacks: Freeze Shock (Black Kyurem) and Ice Burn (White Kyurem). Here's the breakdown of fusion requirements:
- Black Kyurem: 1,000 Volt Fusion Energy, 30 Kyurem Candy, and 30 Zekrom Candy
- White Kyurem: 1,000 Blaze Fusion Energy, 30 Kyurem Candy, and 30 Reshiram Candy
Fusion Energies are earned by defeating Black or White Kyurem in raids. Reversion to the base Kyurem form is free, requiring no Fusion Energy or Candy. Plus, players will have increased odds of encountering Shiny Kyurem, Reshiram, and Zekrom during the event.
For those unable to attend the in-person events, the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova - Global event runs from March 1st to 2nd, 2025. This global event is free for all players!
Meloetta, the Melody Pokémon, Joins the Celebration!
Adding to the excitement, Shiny Meloetta makes its Pokémon GO debut! In-person event ticket holders can complete a Masterwork Research to encounter this melodious Pokémon. Don't worry about the time limit; the Masterwork Research won't expire, allowing players to complete it at their own pace.

Iconic Legendaries from Pokémon Black and White 2
Kyurem, Reshiram, Zekrom, and Meloetta originally appeared in Pokémon Black and White, the fifth generation of Pokémon games featuring the Unova region. The first three are obtainable during the main storyline, while Meloetta is a post-game reward.
Pokémon Black and White 2 introduced Kyurem's alternate forms, each capable of learning Ice Burn and Freeze Shock, mirroring their Pokémon GO counterparts.
With the Tao Trio's alternate forms arriving in Pokémon GO for a limited time in February and globally in March, trainers can fully immerse themselves in the wonders of the Unova region.
