This guide explains how to obtain and utilize the Crystalarium in Stardew Valley, a valuable tool for gemstone farming. The 1.6 update introduced subtle changes to its functionality, particularly regarding relocation and stone replacement.
Obtaining a Crystalarium

The Crystalarium crafting recipe unlocks at Mining Level 9. Required materials include:
- 99 Stone: Easily obtained by breaking rocks.
- 5 Gold Bars: Smelt Gold Ore (found at mine levels 80 and below) using a Furnace and Coal.
- 2 Iridium Bars: Mine Iridium in Skull Cavern or obtain it daily from the Statue of Perfection. Smelt Iridium Ore using a Furnace and Coal.
- 1 Battery Pack: Obtain these by placing Lightning Rods outside during thunderstorms.
Alternative acquisition methods:
- Community Center Bundle: Complete the 25,000g bundle in the Vault.
- Museum Donation: Donate at least 50 minerals (gemstones or geodes) to the Museum.
Using the Crystalarium

Place the Crystalarium anywhere – indoors or outdoors. The Quarry is a popular location for mass production.
The Crystalarium replicates any mineral or gemstone (except Prismatic Shards). Quartz has the shortest growth time but low value. Diamonds offer the highest profit despite a 5-day growth period.
To relocate a Crystalarium, hit it with an axe or pickaxe. Any gem currently being replicated will drop. To change the gem type, simply interact with the Crystalarium while holding the desired gem. The existing gem will be ejected, and the new gem will begin replicating.
Profit from the Crystalarium by producing valuable gemstones for sale or gifting. Diamonds, in particular, offer a significant return on investment.
