Stardew Valley: A Complete Guide To Enchantments & Weapon Forging

Jan 22,2025 Author: Patrick

This guide details how to use Stardew Valley's Volcano Forge to enhance tools and weapons. The forge, located at the end of Ginger Island's Volcano Dungeon, allows players to apply magical enhancements using gemstones, crystals, and Cinder Shards.

Obtaining Cinder Shards:

Cinder Shard Node

Cinder Shards are crucial for all forge functions. Acquire them by:

  • Mining Cinder Shard nodes (pink-orange specks) in the Volcano Dungeon (pictured above).
  • Harvesting from enemies (Magma Sprite, Magma Duggy, Magma Sparker, False Magma Cap) within the dungeon. Drop rates vary.
  • Using a fishing pond with at least seven Stingrays (7-9% daily chance of 2-5 shards).

Cinder Shards are a resource, not gemstones, and can't be replicated in the Crystalarium.

The Mini-Forge:

After achieving Combat Mastery, craft a Mini-Forge (pictured below) for convenient tool enchanting and weapon forging outside the Volcano Dungeon. Required materials include Dragon Teeth, Iron Bars, Gold Bars, and Iridium Bars.

Weapon Forging:

Weapon Forging

Gemstones enhance weapon stats (up to three times per weapon). Each forge level requires more Cinder Shards (10, 15, then 20) and a gemstone:

  • Amethyst: +1 knockback per level.
  • Aquamarine: +4.6% critical hit chance per level.
  • Emerald: +2/+3/+2 weapon speed per level (cumulative).
  • Jade: +10% critical hit damage per level.
  • Ruby: +10% damage per level.
  • Topaz: +1 defense per level.
  • Diamond: Three random upgrades (costs 10 Cinder Shards).

Optimal Weapon Upgrades:

Prioritize Emerald and Ruby for increased damage and speed (high DPS). Combine with Aquamarine or Jade for enhanced critical hits. For survivability (e.g., Qi Challenges), Topaz and Amethyst are beneficial.

Unforging Weapons:

Reset weapons to their original state using the forge's red X symbol. This recovers some Cinder Shards but not the gemstones.

Infinity Weapons:

Upgrade Galaxy Sword, Galaxy Dagger, or Galaxy Hammer into Infinity Weapons using three Galaxy Souls (20 Cinder Shards each per soul). Forged upgrades and enchantments are retained.

Galaxy Souls:

Acquire Galaxy Souls by:

  • Purchasing from Mr. Qi (40 Qi Gems each).
  • Obtaining from Big Slimes in Dangerous Mines or Mr. Qi's quests.
  • Purchasing from the Island Trader (10 Radioactive Bars each, unlocks after 50 Dangerous Monster kills).
  • As drops from Dangerous Monsters (unlocks after 50 Dangerous Monster kills).

Enchantments:

Enchantment

Enchantments add effects to tools and weapons (melee weapons only) using a Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards. Effects are random; re-enchant for a different result.

Weapon Enchantments:

  • Artful: Halved special move cooldown.
  • Bug Killer: Doubles damage against insects, kills Armored Bugs.
  • Crusader: Doubles damage against undead, permanently kills mummies.
  • Vampiric: Chance to regain health upon killing a monster.
  • Haymaker: Double fiber/hay drop chance from weeds.

Innate Weapon Enchantments:

Use a Dragon Tooth to add one enchantment from each of two sets:

Set 1: Slime Slayer, Crit Power, Attack, Speed.

Set 2: Slime Gatherer, Defense, Weight.

Tool Enchantments:

Twelve enchantments, each specific to a tool type (Axe, Pickaxe, Watering Can, Hoe, Fishing Rod, Pan). Examples include:

  • Auto-Hook (Fishing Rod): Instant hook.
  • Bottomless (Watering Can): Endless water.
  • Efficient (various): Tool uses no energy.
  • Preserving (Fishing Rod): 50% chance to conserve bait/tackle.
  • Reaching (various): Increased area of effect.
  • Swift (various): 33% faster tool use.
  • Shaving (Axe): Increased wood/resource yield.

Best Tool Enchantments (suggestions):

  • Axe: Shaving, Swift, or Efficient.
  • Watering Can: Bottomless.
  • Hoe: Generous, Archeologist, Reaching, or Efficient.
  • Pickaxe: Swift or Powerful.
  • Fishing Rod: Preserving.
  • Pan: Generous or Reaching.

This comprehensive guide covers all aspects of the Volcano Forge, enabling players to optimize their tools and weapons in Stardew Valley.
