Relief is on the horizon for Call of Duty: Warzone players grappling with frustrating lobby crashing issues. Recent reports from users highlighted games freezing or crashing during loading screens, which in some instances led to unfair in-game penalties. While a permanent solution is still in the works, Warzone has implemented a quick fix to prevent the game from penalizing players affected by these lobby issues.
2024 marked a significant year for the Call of Duty franchise, but it hasn't been smooth sailing for developer Raven Software lately. Following a disruptive accidental update in late December that took Warzone matchmaking offline, the community has faced ongoing challenges with cheating and bugs. The new year kicked off with yet another headache—a frustrating glitch causing games to crash during loading screens.
Call of Duty: Warzone Developers Respond to Lobby Crash Issue
Warzone players first reported these freezing and crashing issues, prompting Raven Software to launch an investigation on January 6. Although the glitch remains unresolved on the company's public Trello board, the developers have taken steps to mitigate the impact. On January 9, via a Twitter announcement, they disclosed a temporary suspension of Skill Rating penalties and timeouts for players who disconnect before joining a Ranked match. This move comes after widespread player frustration over unwarranted suspensions caused by the glitch, aiming to ease the sting for those affected.
Before this update, players facing crashes could lose their hard-earned Skill Rating points and face a timeout, preventing them from joining new matches for several minutes. Ironically, the community had once clamored for an early leaving penalty, which, now integrated into the game, has inadvertently caused issues when glitches force players to disconnect unintentionally. Raven Software's temporary suspension strikes a balance, ensuring no penalties for those booted before a match starts, while still holding players accountable for leaving mid-game.
While a permanent fix remains pending, this penalty update alleviates some of the urgency surrounding the issue. However, lingering dissatisfaction among fans is understandable, as bugs persist even after a substantial update in early January 2025. Any interruption to Ranked play is bound to cause frustration, regardless of the context. The Call of Duty: Warzone team is currently juggling multiple bug fixes and patches, and the community hopes for swift resolutions to these ongoing challenges.
