Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their much-anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. In this latest update, the creators took a nostalgic detour to reminisce about one of their most celebrated titles: the wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which catapulted the studio to international acclaim over a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing atmosphere, The Alters takes a different approach with a narrative that is both passionate and frequently humorous, focusing on the trials of various alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite their contrasting tones, the developers highlight a deep thematic connection between the two games.
Although The Alters and This War of Mine differ significantly in setting and mood, they both center on the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players must navigate the brutal realities of life in a besieged city, managing scarce resources and facing daily challenges to ensure their group's survival. On the other hand, The Alters casts survival as a desperate race against time, where players must continuously relocate their mobile base to evade a relentless sun that turns everything to dust.
Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, compelling them to explore dangerous territories in search of vital resources. The primary distinction between the two lies in their protagonists: in This War of Mine, players lead a group of ordinary civilians, whereas in The Alters, players manage a unique team made up of different versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass right from launch day, offering players an immediate opportunity to dive into this innovative survival adventure.
