Assassin's Creed Shadows Faces Another Delay, Now Targeting March 20, 2025

Ubisoft has announced a further delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing its release date back to March 20, 2025. Initially slated for a February 14th launch, this marks a five-week postponement from the previously announced date. The publisher cites the need to integrate player feedback as the primary reason for this additional delay.

The game's journey to release has been marked by setbacks. A significant three-month delay was announced in September 2024, shifting the launch from November 15th to February 14th. While the initial delay was attributed to unspecified development challenges, Ubisoft now clarifies that this latest postponement prioritizes incorporating player feedback to enhance the overall gaming experience.

In a statement, Marc-Alexis Coté, the game's vice president executive producer, emphasized Ubisoft's commitment to delivering a high-quality and immersive experience, highlighting the importance of ongoing player-developer communication. Both delays share a common goal: providing the development team with extra time to refine and polish the game.

Revised Release Date:

  • March 20, 2025

The September delay resulted in pre-order refunds and the promise of free access to the game's first expansion for future pre-orders. Ubisoft has yet to announce similar compensation for this latest postponement. The shorter delay, however, might mitigate potential player dissatisfaction compared to the previous three-month shift.

This recent delay could also be linked to Ubisoft's ongoing internal investigation into its development practices, launched to improve player-centricity. The company has faced challenges in recent years, including record losses in its 2023 fiscal year, potentially influencing this decision to prioritize player feedback. Integrating fan input into Assassin's Creed Shadows could be a strategic move towards improving future game development and addressing past criticisms.
