Bandai Namco to End PAC-MAN Mobile Service

PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown Announcement – A Bittersweet Farewell

Bandai Namco has officially announced the shutdown of PAC-MAN Mobile, a decision that feels especially ironic as the beloved arcade icon is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. Originally launched over a decade ago, this mobile iteration offered a modern twist on the classic franchise—yet now, it’s set to disappear from app stores for good.

When Is PAC-MAN Mobile Shutting Down?

The final day for PAC-MAN Mobile will be May 30th, 2025. As of April 1st, 2025, in-app purchases have already been disabled, marking the beginning of the end for active players. Until May 30th, however, you can still enjoy the game and relive some nostalgic moments one last time.

Fans have taken the news with a mix of sadness and confusion. Many are disappointed that Bandai Namco opted for a full shutdown instead of transitioning the game into an offline-only mode. That would have allowed players to keep enjoying the content they already own—without requiring server support—and could have even generated additional revenue through legacy sales.

What Made PAC-MAN Mobile Unique?

This version of the game, formerly known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, was more than just a retro re-release. Alongside the classic 8-bit arcade gameplay that fans know and love, it introduced several new modes:

  • Story Mode: Featuring dozens of original mazes to complete.
  • Adventure Mode: With limited-time themed events and opportunities to earn exclusive skins.
  • Tournament Mode: Offering weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels.

Additionally, the game featured a wide variety of cosmetic upgrades, including unique skins for PAC-MAN, ghosts, and even the joystick—letting players personalize their experience like never before.

Why Is It Being Discontinued?

Unfortunately, the game had been plagued by technical issues and bugs for years, which likely contributed to Bandai Namco's decision to pull the plug. Server instability, outdated mechanics, and a lack of meaningful updates seem to have made continued support unsustainable.

Looking back, there was a time when PAC-MAN Mobile was a hot title on Android, with players competing for top spots on global leaderboards. It was a fun era—one that deserves a respectful sendoff.

One Last Playthrough Before Shutdown

If you'd like to revisit PAC-MAN Mobile for one final run before it's gone, you can still download it from the Google Play Store while it's available.
