"Conquer Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds: Proven Strategies"

May 03,2025 Author: Alexander

In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, the creatures you encounter are not only fierce but also uniquely memorable. Among them, Rompopolo stands out as a particularly distinctive Brute Wyvern. If you're looking to conquer this beast, here's a comprehensive guide on how to defeat and capture it.

How to Unlock Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds

Rompopolo makes its first appearance in Chapter 2 during Mission 2-1: Toward Fervent Fields. You'll encounter it in the Oilwell Basin region on your way to Azuz City, and defeating it is crucial to progress. Once you've defeated Rompopolo at least once, its entry will be added to your Large Monster Field Guide. You can then engage it repeatedly by exploring the Oilwell Basin or by starting the "Oilwell Basin Blast" Optional Quest from your Tent.

How to Beat and Capture Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds

To prepare for your battle against Rompopolo, arm your hunter with water-element weapons, obtainable from Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest. Additionally, equip gear with fire resistance, which can be farmed from Uth Duna or Ajarakan later in the chapter. Consider crafting a fire-resistance Talisman like the Fire Charm I or a Defense Charm I for added protection. Before the fight, boost your health and stamina by grilling a meal.

Rompopolo Attacks and Weaknesses

Rompopolo is distinguished by its unique set of gas-related attacks, thanks to its saggy, gas-filled skin. Be prepared for potential poison status ailments and carry Antidotes. Your Palico can also help cleanse these ailments.

Key attacks to watch out for include:

  • Arm Swipe – Rompopolo performs a double forward swipe with its clawed arms. This attack is easy to dodge due to its limited range.
  • Lunge With Arm Swipe – It charges forward while swinging its arms in an arc, aiming at its target.
  • Tail Swing – Rompopolo swings its tail towards you, another physical attack to avoid.
  • Poison Stream or Swipe – It either sprays a stream of poison gas or charges while swinging its head, releasing poison.
  • Oil Explosion – From a distance, Rompopolo injects gas into oil pools, causing explosions. Dodge these to avoid damage.
  • Charged Oil Explosion – Later in the fight, it pumps more gas into the oil for a larger explosion. Dodge this to prevent significant damage.

Should You Kill or Capture Rompopolo?

Similar to previous *Monster Hunter* games, you have the option to either kill or capture Rompopolo. To capture it, weaken the beast until your Palico notes it looks "tired." Then, use Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps to ensnare it, followed by at least one Tranq Bomb to knock it out and complete the capture.

Both methods yield different rewards, with some items exclusive to capture or kill. Below are the potential drops from Rompopolo:
