Undertale creator Toby Fox recently provided an update on the testing phase for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4. Read on for details on console testing and what to expect.
Toby Fox, via his Bluesky account, shared that console testing is underway. While much work remains, progress is positive. He noted fewer bugs but a significant amount of testing still needed, even for the PS5 version. Beyond bug fixes, the team is working on a crucial feature: transferring saves from the Chapters 1 and 2 demo to the full release. This functionality, recently made possible by new technology, is a key goal. "I hope it works!" Fox added.
With beta testing progressing well, a release date may be approaching. Fox confirmed a 2025 release for Chapters 3 and 4.
Amidst the development efforts, Fox shared a humorous anecdote. He showed family and friends a minigame he's developing, which they described as "a cry for help because your game is not out." While his family found this positive, a friend laughed for ten minutes straight.
This sparked speculation that the minigame might be for Chapter 5, given Fox's 2024 statement that Chapters 3 and 4 were content-complete. Deltarune is planned for seven chapters.
He further revealed, "Same friend who played Chapter 3 like over a year ago also told me ‘I miss Tenna’ and I was like ‘man that's something no one in the world has ever said huh’." Tenna, a previously unseen character first glimpsed during the Spamton Sweepstakes campaign (September 2022), is confirmed for Chapter 3.
Deltarune, the successor to Undertale, retains many of its predecessor's mechanics while introducing a new story and characters. Players will once again follow Kris, Susie, and Ralsei on a world-saving adventure.
