Don't Starve Together, initially announced for Netflix Games in June 2024, will not be arriving on the streaming service after all. However, the good news is that the mobile version for iOS and Android is still on track. Playdigious and Klei Entertainment are continuing their collaboration to bring this popular survival game to mobile devices worldwide via Google Play and the App Store. While a specific release date remains unannounced, an update is promised soon.
The darkly whimsical Don't Starve series casts players as quirky characters stranded on a hostile island, tasked with resource gathering and survival—the ultimate goal being, of course, to not starve.
Originally intended as a Netflix Games exclusive, Don't Starve Together will now enjoy a global launch on iOS and Android.

Netflix's Shifting Focus?
The cancellation of the Netflix Games release raises questions about the platform's commitment to indie titles. The loss of Don't Starve Together, a highly acclaimed and iconic survival game, alongside other indie exclusives like Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, suggests a potential shift in strategy. Netflix's strong indie catalog has been a significant draw, and its future in this area remains uncertain.
This development, coupled with the launch of Netflix's own properties like Squid Game: Unleashed, points towards a possible increased focus on internally developed games. This shift could negatively impact the platform's diverse selection of indie titles. For a more detailed analysis of this trend, refer to my article on the launch of Squid Game: Unleashed.
