This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. While the process is relatively simple, finding the starting point can be challenging. The key is understanding the role of Merchantburg, a town initially represented as "???" on the map.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), sail to the northeast corner of the map to find Merchantburg. Its location is marked on the map if quest markers are enabled. You can sail west from the coast to reach the easternmost point of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg

While orb collection order is flexible, visiting Merchantburg early (immediately after getting the ship) is recommended. This allows time for the town's growth before obtaining the Yellow Orb, enabling parallel progress on other orb quests.

Establishing Merchantburg and Obtaining the Yellow Orb

1. Hire a Merchant: Before heading to Merchantburg, hire a new merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route to protect your new party member.

2. Founding the Town: In Merchantburg's sole building, speak to the old man. He needs a merchant to establish the town. Offer your newly hired merchant. The town will then be named after your merchant (e.g., Christopherburg).

3. Merchantburg's Growth Stages: Merchantburg progresses through five growth stages. You'll receive notifications to revisit. The fourth visit involves a large club's construction. Be wary of the security guard trying to overcharge you upon exiting. Your merchant's popularity will wane during this stage.

4. The Revolt and the Orb's Location: On your fifth visit (at night), you'll find the merchant imprisoned following a town revolt. Speak to him; he'll reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to his house; the orb is hidden behind the sofa (indicated by a quest marker).
