Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth. Variety reports that Eggers will write and direct, collaborating with his The Northman co-writer Sjón. This follows a previous attempt at a sequel with Scott Derrickson attached, which ultimately didn’t progress. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have now opted for Eggers' vision.
The original 1986 *Labyrinth*, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows Connelly’s character as she journeys through a fantastical world to rescue her baby brother from Jareth. She's aided by a memorable cast of Henson puppets.Eggers’ upcoming projects extend beyond Labyrinth. He's also helming a werewolf movie, Werwulf, aiming for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th-century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English. The plot, naturally, will involve a werewolf transformation.
Nosferatu, Eggers' recent Christmas release, is a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film. Set in 19th-century Germany, it follows a real estate agent whose dealings with a Transylvanian count unleash vampiric horrors upon him and his wife.
Nosferatu received four Oscar nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. Read our review here.
