Elden Ring Nightreign offers a wealth of powerful loot for Nightfarers to claim on their quest to vanquish the Nightlords. But just how powerful can it become? One player's viral experiment provides a dramatic answer. After discovering a rare weapon, they dedicated themselves to forging it into the ultimate Nightlord-slaying tool—only to watch its power spectacularly collapse from its peak back into nothingness.

This story revolves around Japanese YouTuber mintius (via Automaton Media), who obtained the Marais Executioner Sword. This unique weapon increases its attack power with each enemy defeated, though typically within a defined limit.

Given Nightreign's time-sensitive nature, dictated by its encroaching storm, this sword's power rarely spirals completely out of control, despite its inherent strength. However, Mintius managed to find the perfect combination of enemy encounters to push its scaling to the absolute maximum—and then beyond.

According to Automaton's translation, Mintius spent roughly an hour hunting mobs in a Wormface encounter with the Marais Executioner Sword to test its limits. Their attack power capped at 9,999 after defeating 725 enemies, with the final recorded damage value reaching 63,375. But upon defeating the 727th foe, Mintius was suddenly unable to deal any damage and was swiftly killed.

The prevailing theory is that Mintius triggered an "overflow" error. Much like the famous tale of Gandhi's aggression in Civilization games after hitting a diplomacy limit, exceeding the sword's upper damage threshold may have caused it to wrap around to its lowest possible value.

Mintius plans to continue testing the Marais Executioner Sword to fully understand its boundaries and incredible damage potential. They've expressed interest in attempting a plunging attack on a Flame Chariot just to see what numbers appear. The results are likely to be spectacular.

For the average Nightreign player, consider this a cautionary tale against excessive greed when farming with the Marais Executioner Sword. Spending an hour doing so might be unwise. While it's undoubtedly a formidable weapon, reaching for its absolute pinnacle seems to invite a dramatic fall.
