The Flare Knife is a powerful combat item that can significantly improve your chances, particularly when severing Abductor limbs. This guide details how to acquire and effectively use this valuable asset.

Acquiring the Flare Knife

The Flare Knife is surprisingly accessible early in the game. Once you achieve Level 003 Code Clearance, visit Zakka in The Warren. This vendor stocks a range of weapons and items, including the Flare Knife, available for 3,000 Entitlement Points.

Equip the Flare Knife via the Loadout menu in the Personal Responsibility Portal. Select an available Combat Item slot; your Flare Knife will appear in the list if you've purchased it.

Utilizing the Flare Knife

The Flare Knife is a reusable combat tool specifically designed for severing Abductor parts. This offers a valuable alternative for players who favor Polearms or Heavy Melee weapons, eliminating the need for Light Melee weapons to achieve limb severing. However, remember it's a single-use item per operation; repurchase is necessary for subsequent missions.

To use it, lock onto a severable Abductor part and use your Thorn to grapple onto it. With the Flare Knife equipped, a severing option will appear. A quick-time event (QTE) will initiate, requiring rapid button mashing to successfully sever the limb. Be aware that the Abductor might interrupt this process by leaping or crashing.

Cooperative play enhances the Flare Knife's effectiveness. Snare the Abductor repeatedly with teammates to create more opportunities for successful severing.
