Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Details
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions and design.
Key features showcased include a larger form factor approaching the size of the Valve Steam Deck, magnetic Joy-Cons with integrated optical sensors, a second USB-C port, and an enigmatic "C" button.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge. While the SL and SR buttons utilize magnets for detachment, a release button on each Joy-Con assists in separation. Despite the change from sliding rails, Tsai assures users of secure Joy-Con attachment during gameplay. The optical sensors suggest potential functionality as mouse controls via a yet-to-be-released accessory.
Further details from Genki include the Switch 2's surprisingly slim profile. Although larger than its predecessor, it's thin enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, structural differences render it incompatible. The functions of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain undisclosed.
