Big changes are coming for Netflix Games subscribers who enjoy Grand Theft Auto on Android. GTA III and GTA Vice City are leaving the Netflix Games platform next month.
Why are these GTA games leaving, and when?
This isn't a random decision. Netflix licenses games similarly to movies and shows, and the licenses for these two GTA titles expire next month. A "Leaving Soon" label will appear on the games before their removal. The games were added a year ago, and the initial 12-month agreement with Rockstar Games is concluding. After December 13th, they'll be unavailable to Netflix subscribers.
If you're currently playing either game on Netflix, it's time to finish up! However, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains on the platform.
What's next for these titles?
You can purchase GTA III and Vice City (as well as the entire trilogy) from the Google Play Store. Individual games cost $4.99, and the trilogy is $11.99. This is a contrast to last year's removal of Samurai Shodown V and WrestleQuest, which were removed without prior notice.
Interestingly, Rockstar Games isn't renewing their license with Netflix, despite the GTA trilogy contributing significantly to Netflix Games' subscriber growth in 2023. However, there are rumors that Rockstar and Netflix are collaborating on remastered versions of Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and even Chinatown Wars. Let's hope these rumors prove true!
