Concept Art Unveils Canceled Batman Arkham Knight Sequel Featuring Damian Wayne
Aug 09,2025Author: Finn
Artwork from a scrapped Batman Arkham Knight sequel, intended to showcase Damian Wayne as the new Dark Knight, has emerged online, offering a striking glimpse at an older, weathered Bruce Wayne.
Dubbed Project Sabbath, the game was in development at Warner Bros. Games Montreal, the studio behind Batman Arkham Origins, following the 2015 release of Arkham Knight. It was set to feature both Bruce and Damian Wayne as dual Batmen.
However, Warner Bros. canceled the project, redirecting the studio to develop 2022’s Gotham Knights, a poorly received title that omitted Batman entirely.
Initially envisioned as Warner Bros.’ next major Batman title, Project Sabbath was shelved as Rocksteady pursued other character-driven concepts, later releasing the unsuccessful Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Newly surfaced images from a former WB Games Montreal artist on Artstation reveal a youthful Damian Wayne, a rugged, bearded Bruce, and designs for characters like Killer Croc and Huntress.
It remains unclear whether Project Sabbath would have been part of the Arkhamverse canon. While some designs, like a reimagined Killer Croc, suggest a departure from the established universe, WB Games Montreal’s Batman Arkham Origins is considered part of Rocksteady’s canonical trilogy.

This isn’t the first leak of Project Sabbath’s concept art. In 2021, another former WB Games Montreal developer shared images of Damian Wayne in a sleek Batsuit with a red Bat emblem on the chest.
Those earlier designs also depicted an older, bearded Bruce Wayne in his suit, hinting that the retired hero would occasionally don the cape again.
More concept art from "Project Sabbath," WB Games Montreal’s canceled Damian Wayne Batman game, has been revealed by concept artist Goran Bukvic. The images align with earlier descriptions of the project.

Following Gotham Knights’ release and support for Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, WB Games Montreal faced layoffs in December 2024, cutting nearly 100 jobs. Rocksteady’s co-op game with Batman’s supporting characters flopped, but the studio is reportedly now developing a new single-player Batman title.
