Ironheart Star Reacts to Pre-Release Backlash

Anthony Ramos, star of Hamilton, has responded to the early negative online reception of Marvel's Disney+ series Ironheart, which emerged even before the show premiered.

A spin-off from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever focusing on the character Riri Williams, Ironheart debuted its first three episodes last week, with the final three arriving tomorrow, July 1.

However, critical user reviews surfaced online prior to the show's release, some specifically targeting its focus on a Black female lead. Ramos has now shared his thoughts on this initial backlash.

"You're going to face negativity no matter what," Ramos told Buzzfeed, drawing a parallel to his experience with the 2023 film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

"I've been in Transformers, and people had negative things to say. With this project, people are talking... Everyone will voice their opinion, but ultimately, we know what we created, and we're proud of it.

"We're not exactly the first to do this, but among all the shows, we are definitely distinct," Ramos continued. "When you take a step in a new direction like that, you inevitably open yourself up to public commentary.

"I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, and the fact they're discussing it is something. If they weren't talking at all, then I'd be concerned."

Set in Chicago, Ironheart follows Williams as she constructs a magic-infused suit of armor inspired by Iron Man, aided by Ramos' character, a gang leader known as The Hood.

The cast recently received support from MCU veteran Robert Downey Jr., who shared a video message expressing he "couldn't be happier" to see Dominique Thorne in the starring role. "In short, Iron Man loves Ironheart," Downey Jr. stated in his endorsement.

Critics have given Ironheart a mixed reception overall. Meanwhile, Marvel has consistently hinted that the final episodes will introduce a major comic book villain, urging fans to watch the conclusion this week.
