While exploring Wyveria in Monster Hunter Wilds, you'll encounter various monsters, including Xu Wu. Though less formidable than Nu Udra, this swift and dangerous creature poses a unique challenge.

Xu Wu is a highly agile adversary in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its unpredictable movements and dark skin make it tough to track, especially since its front is hard to distinguish. With multiple arms and the ability to slip into walls or vanish briefly, it often reappears from the ceiling, attempting to drop onto you. This behavior is exclusive to its nest, so exercise extra caution when battling there.
Xu Wu is particularly vulnerable to Ice in Monster Hunter Wilds. Ice ammo is effective, but melee fighters should equip gear that deals elemental damage. Adding a Frost Jewel to boost the Ice Attack skill is a smart move. Carrying a Frost Pod can also help, as it inflicts minor Ice damage to weaken the beast.
In addition to its tentacle strikes and diving maneuvers, Xu Wu can ensnare you with a grab attack in Monster Hunter Wilds. If caught, your standard weapons become unusable, but you have a brief two-second window to escape. Using a slinger with Frost Pods is highly effective for breaking free from this monster’s grip.
The mouth is Xu Wu’s most vulnerable spot, located beneath its body and typically visible only during its dive attacks. A well-timed, powerful strike here can deal massive damage and potentially break its mouth, rewarding you with Xu Wu’s fang.
If the mouth is inaccessible, aim for the head, which is highly susceptible to blunt and cut damage (4-star weakness) and moderately vulnerable to ammo damage (3-star weakness).
Xu Wu is highly susceptible to Poison (3-star weakness), making it a prime status effect to exploit. Bows with Poison Coating are particularly effective for applying this ailment. Other status effects can work, but avoid Sleep, as it has minimal impact on this monster.

Once Xu Wu’s health drops to 20 percent, you can set a trap. A Pitfall Trap or Shock Trap works best to immobilize the beast. Using meat as bait or positioning yourself to lure it into the trap can help. After trapping it, quickly fire a tranquilizer to secure the capture, as you only have a few seconds before Xu Wu breaks free.
That’s all you need to know to hunt and capture Xu Wu in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its speed demands constant awareness, so monitor your stamina closely during the fight.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
