Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has shed light on how the iconic characters Homelander and Omni-Man will be uniquely represented in the upcoming game, Mortal Kombat 1. During a revealing interview at Gamescom, Boon discussed the creative process behind differentiating these two powerful figures, ensuring that each brings a distinct experience to the game.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
In his conversation with IGN, Boon addressed the fanbase's concerns about the potential similarities in combat styles between Homelander and Omni-Man. He emphasized that the development team at NetherRealm Studios is committed to crafting unique movesets for both characters. Boon explained, "We have the creative freedom to explore various ideas with these characters, but we're careful not to give them identical Superman-esque abilities. For instance, we're not planning to have both Homelander and Omni-Man equipped with heat vision."
Boon went on to reveal that the team has drawn inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to design their Fatalities, ensuring that each character's gameplay feels fresh and distinct. "They're definitely going to play differently," Boon stated. "Their main attacks will significantly differentiate them, and we're aware of the assumption some fans might have that they'll be too similar. We're working to prove that wrong."
