It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda title, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception, albeit with a twist we didn't see coming. During today's Nintendo Direct, we got the exciting news that Koei Tecmo is crafting a new addition to the Hyrule Warriors series: a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, set to launch this winter.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment continues the Hyrule Warriors saga but this time focuses on characters from the ancient history depicted in Tears of the Kingdom. This includes Zelda, Rauru, Sonia, and the other Secret Stone holders. The game narrates Zelda's journey during the events of Tears of the Kingdom, where she ventures back in time and allies with the last Zonai, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to battle against Ganondorf and his forces.

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of these champions, featuring Mineru piloting a mech, Zelda wielding her magic, Rauru with his distinctive sword-spear, and a brief glimpse of other Sacred Stone wielders.
This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which served as a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity was particularly intriguing, as it presented its narrative in a way that slightly diverged from what fans might have expected based on Breath of the Wild. We gave Age of Calamity a 9/10, praising it as "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
