The lead developers of the upcoming life simulation game recently answered fan questions. When asked about the inclusion of sexual content, the assistant director gave such a vague reply—avoiding the word "sex" entirely—that players were left genuinely uncertain about its handling.
In essence, the explanation was that the process occurs in a suggestive manner. For instance, if a male ZOI and a female ZOI go to bed together, it’s implied they aim to have children—but how explicitly this is shown is largely left to the player’s interpretation.
Maybe that's essentially what takes place, just not to the extent many had anticipated.
As a result, it remains unclear whether inZOI will handle sexual content with censorship similar to The Sims series, or if it will introduce a new approach.
The developers also explained why ZOIs shower while wearing towels, rather than using pixelation for censorship. First, they felt pixelation fits more cartoonish art styles better; in a realistic game, such blurring can ironically feel more sexualized. Second, there was a technical glitch: when a naked ZOI with pixel censorship stood near a mirror, the blur effect didn’t appear in the reflection.
Actually, many questions are answered by looking at the official ratings the game has already received: ESRB – T (Teen), with PEGI 12 expected. These are the same ratings assigned to The Sims 4.
