The cameras have officially started rolling on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark this exciting milestone, DC Studios head James Gunn took to Bluesky to share a special update. He announced that filming has commenced at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and unveiled the first glimpse of Milly Alcock in her role as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. Although the photo Gunn shared shows Alcock seated in her actor's chair, it's a thrilling sneak peek for fans eagerly awaiting the film.

Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This post also confirmed that Craig Gillespie, known for directing films like Cruella and I, Tonya, will be directing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, as previously reported in April.

While specific plot details remain under wraps, it's known that the film will draw heavily from the acclaimed graphic novel Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. This standalone story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The graphic novel was nominated for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards and is highly recommended for those who haven't yet experienced it.

The cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, who has been recast in the DC universe as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to be the second film in the new DC universe, following James Gunn's Superman, which is slated for release this summer. Other projects currently in development include The Batman Part II, which may or may not be connected to Gunn's cinematic universe, and a rumored Clayface movie directed by Mike Flanagan.
