Konami Unveils Mobile Suikoden Game: STAR LEAP

Exciting news for fans of the iconic RPG series: Suikoden is making a comeback with Suikoden STAR LEAP, a new mobile RPG developed by Konami and MYTHRIL. Set to launch on Android and iOS, this free-to-play game doesn't have a specific release date yet, but it's expected to hit the app stores later this year.

For those new to the series, Suikoden first graced gamers in 1995, crafted by Yoshitaka Murayama and published by Konami. Drawing inspiration from the classic Chinese novel Water Margin, the series, known as Suikoden in Japan, has woven tales of political intrigue, the mystical True Runes, and the legendary 108 Stars of Destiny. Over the years, it has expanded into 11 entries, including spin-offs, with the most recent release in 2012. Now, instead of a direct sequel or a full revival, Konami is bringing the Suikoden universe to mobile with STAR LEAP.

What's in Store?

Suikoden STAR LEAP introduces a fresh lineup of characters while maintaining the tradition of assembling 108 heroes, a hallmark of the series. The game embraces the nostalgic pixel art style, keeping true to the classic Suikoden aesthetic. You can get a sneak peek in the teaser trailer below:

The narrative centers around the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes that have shaped the world. The story follows Hou, the protagonist and son of a village chief, who has just celebrated his first successful hunt. However, disaster soon strikes when the village is attacked, setting Hou on a quest to restore peace. Accompanying him are Hisui, Hou's servant with a mysterious emotional suppression; Shirin, his childhood friend driven by a strong sense of justice; and Shapur, a former general now serving as a butler.

While the announcement of Suikoden STAR LEAP has stirred excitement, it has also sparked debate within the fan community. Many have been eagerly awaiting a traditional continuation of the series, and the introduction of a gacha-based mobile game has left some fans uncertain about its direction.

We'll have a clearer picture once Suikoden STAR LEAP is released. Until then, stay updated by visiting the official website for the latest news and developments.
