Marvel Rejects AI Use Claims for Fantastic Four Posters

Apr 02,2025 Author: Jacob

Marvel has firmly denied the use of AI in creating promotional posters for The Fantastic Four: First Steps following fan speculation sparked by an image showing a man with seemingly only four fingers. The marketing campaign for this much-anticipated film began this week, featuring a teaser for the debut trailer and a collection of posters shared on social media.

One particular poster caught the attention of fans due to an image of a man holding a large Fantastic Four flag, who appears to be missing a finger. This, along with other anomalies such as duplicated faces, misaligned gazes, and disproportionately sized limbs, led fans to suspect the use of generative AI in the poster's creation.

However, a spokesperson from Disney/Marvel clarified to IGN that AI was not employed in the making of these posters, indicating other factors might be at play. Regarding the four-fingered man, some fans theorize that the missing finger might be concealed behind the flagpole, although this seems unlikely given the angles and sizes involved. Others believe it could simply be a case of subpar Photoshop work rather than AI involvement.

Disney/Marvel has not yet provided a direct explanation for the four-fingered man, leaving room for ongoing speculation. It's possible that this was a simple error in the post-production process, with the finger inadvertently removed without adjusting the rest of the hand. Similarly, the repeated faces in the poster might be the result of a common digital technique involving copying and pasting background actors rather than the use of AI.

This debate over the use of AI in the The Fantastic Four: First Steps poster is likely to increase scrutiny on future promotional materials for the film. As we await further developments, there's much more to explore about The Fantastic Four: First Steps, including insights into characters like Galactus and Doctor Doom.
