Marvel Rivals, the popular hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase has confirmed it won't be coming to the original Nintendo Switch. But what about the Nintendo Switch 2?
At the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. The news for Switch fans is promising: a Switch 2 release is a definite possibility. Wu stated, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. Whenever we can provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason we didn't launch on the original Switch was its limitations in providing a great gameplay experience. If the Switch 2 can achieve that goal, we're definitely interested."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled last month. While specifics are still scarce, it promises a more powerful and enhanced system. Interestingly, it seems the console will incorporate mouse-like controller functionality, potentially making shooter games like Marvel Rivals feel more PC-like. The exact implementation remains to be seen.
The Nintendo Switch 2 lacks a confirmed release date, though a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms, and we highly recommend it. Our 8/10 review praised the game, stating it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." The Human Torch and The Thing are set to join the roster on February 21st.
