The Voodoo Doll is considered one of the safer Cursed Possessions to use in *Phasmophobia* due to its favorable risk-reward ratio. Even though game updates have modified some of its effects, it remains a solid choice for players. The primary function of the Voodoo Doll is to compel the ghost to perform actions that reveal evidence, which is especially useful when dealing with elusive or silent ghosts. By inserting pins into the doll, you can provoke the ghost to show signs such as EMF5 readings or Ultraviolet fingerprints.
There are 10 pins available to use on the doll, but each insertion comes with a risk. Every pin pushed into the doll depletes 5% of your sanity, meaning using all pins could drain up to 50% of your sanity, significantly increasing the chances of a ghost hunt. The most dangerous pin is the one located in the heart of the doll. If you insert this pin, it will immediately reduce your sanity by 10% and trigger a Cursed Hunt, causing the ghost to spawn near you and extend its hunting duration by 20 seconds.
Despite these risks, the Voodoo Doll can be a powerful tool for gathering evidence, provided you are well-prepared and manage your sanity levels carefully.

Cursed Possessions, often referred to as "Cursed Objects," are unique items in *Phasmophobia* that can randomly appear on any map, depending on the difficulty settings or if you're playing in Challenge Mode. Unlike regular equipment, which helps locate ghosts and gather evidence with minimal risk, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts to manipulate the ghost's behavior but at a higher risk to your character.
The safety of using these objects varies; some are more dangerous than others based on their effects. It's up to you and your team to decide whether to use them, as there's no penalty for choosing not to. Typically, only one Cursed Possession will spawn per contract, though this can be adjusted in Custom settings.
There are seven different types of Cursed Objects available in the game:
- Haunted Mirror
- Voodoo Doll
- Music Box
- Tarot Cards
- Ouija Board
- Monkey Paw
- Summoning Circle
