Get ready for round two! The sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot is officially on its way, and we've just gotten our first glimpse of a key new addition to the cast: Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban.
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon unveiled a poster featuring Urban as the iconic Hollywood actor and Mortal Kombat fighter. The poster cleverly mimics a fictional Johnny Cage movie poster, complete with the over-the-top action one would expect from the character—two motorcycles leaping from flames!
Mortal Kombat 2 will directly follow the events of the first film, which starred Lewis Tan as Cole Young, alongside Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero. Joining the returning cast are several newcomers, including Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi.

The original film focused on Cole Young's introduction to the Mortal Kombat universe and the long-standing conflict between Scorpion and Sub-Zero. While plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, the vast lore of the Mortal Kombat video games provides ample source material for the filmmakers.
Initially planned for a theatrical release, the first Mortal Kombat film was ultimately released on HBO Max due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Mortal Kombat 2 is slated for a theatrical debut on October 24, 2025.
Our review of the first film awarded it a 7 out of 10, praising its "spectacular display of blood, guts, and effects-heavy martial arts battles."
