Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025
Following the emergence of Switch 2 images at CES 2025, Nintendo issued a rare public statement. A company representative confirmed that Nintendo did not officially participate in CES 2025, therefore, any Switch 2 imagery originating from the event is unofficial. This statement, while seemingly obvious, is noteworthy given Nintendo's typically tight-lipped approach to leaks.
Leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been prevalent since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES, generating significant online buzz.
Nintendo's response, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply labeled the Genki replica images and videos as "not official." The company emphasized its absence from CES 2025, further solidifying the unofficial nature of the showcased materials.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most notable differences from the original Switch are its slightly larger size and an additional button—a square button labeled "C"—situated below the right Joy-Con's home button. The function of this "C" button remains unknown.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai offered additional insights, claiming the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachment instead of sliding rails and function as mouse controllers—claims supported by other sources.
Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the official unveiling is still anticipated. A retail launch isn't expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
