Nintendo Will Sell Loads of Switch 2 Consoles at Launch ‘Regardless of Price,’ Analysts Predict, June Release Date Once Again Mentioned

The price of the Nintendo Switch 2 is a hot topic in the gaming world. Analysts at IGN predict a $400 launch price, a figure corroborated by a recent Bloomberg report citing Japan-focused analysts. This would be significantly more expensive than the original Switch, with some analysts even suggesting a potential $499 price point. Despite this, the expectation is for a massive launch, possibly the biggest console launch ever, regardless of the final price. "They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months, almost regardless of the price," Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto told Bloomberg.

This strong initial sales projection is fueled by anticipation for a compelling launch lineup. Toto anticipates a new Mario Kart (as hinted by Nintendo), a new 3D Mario title, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Metroid Prime 4, and Call of Duty from Activision, all potentially releasing within the Switch 2's first year. Furthermore, a significant number of rumored third-party titles are in the works. In an interview with IGN, Firaxis (developers of Civilization 7) called the Switch 2's apparent Joy-Con mouse mode "definitely intriguing." Nacon, a French publisher of games like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed it has Switch 2 games ready for release. Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored for the platform. Finally, EA has expressed interest in bringing Madden, FIFA, and The Sims to the Switch 2.

It's important to note that Activision hasn't officially announced its Switch 2 plans, and Nintendo hasn't commented on the price reports.

A June 2025 release date is gaining traction within gaming media. Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein told Bloomberg that a June launch is expected, with an initial stock of 6-8 million units. If Nintendo sells through this initial inventory quickly, the Switch 2 could outpace the sales of its predecessor and the PlayStation 4 and 5, setting new records.
