Omori Cancels Switch and PS4 Physical Release in Europe

Omori’s European publisher, Meridiem Games, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. This decision has left many fans disappointed, as the physical edition was eagerly anticipated across the continent.

A Series of Unfortunate Delays

Omori's physical release in Europe faced multiple delays before its ultimate cancellation. Initially scheduled for March 2023, the release was postponed to December of the same year, then to March 2024, and finally rescheduled for January 2025. These repeated delays led to frustration among fans who had pre-ordered the game, as they received multiple updates from retailers like Amazon about the changing release dates.

The cancellation was attributed to technical difficulties with multilingual European localization, as stated by Meridiem Games on Twitter (X). When questioned about the nature of these localization issues, the publisher could only reiterate the information provided in their initial announcement, leaving fans without further details.

The cancellation is particularly disappointing because it would have marked the first time Omori was officially available in Spanish and other European languages. Now, European fans interested in owning a physical copy will need to import the US version of the game.

Omori, an RPG that follows the journey of a young boy named Sunny, delves into themes of isolation and trauma. The narrative alternates between the real world and Sunny's dream world, where he assumes the persona of Omori. Originally launched on PC in December 2020, the game later became available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, due to controversy over an inappropriate T-shirt design sold by OMOCAT in 2013, the game was removed from the Xbox platform, making it unavailable to Xbox players.
