Pattinson Out as DCU Batman: Confirmed

Mar 13,2025 Author: Eleanor

James Gunn and Peter Safran have confirmed that The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman to the DC Universe (DCU), definitively ruling out Robert Pattinson. During a DC Studios presentation, Safran and Gunn clarified that Pattinson will remain exclusive to Matt Reeves’ The Batman Epic Crime Saga. Gunn stated unequivocally, "It's certainly not the plan," regarding Pattinson's inclusion in the broader DCU. Safran added, "We love him, but we've got to introduce a Batman into the DCU. That's imperative. And so that's the plan with The Brave and the Bold."

Earlier speculation about Pattinson's potential crossover stemmed from Reeves himself leaving the possibility open. However, Reeves emphasized his focus on The Batman Epic Crime Saga, stating that he and DC Studios are aligned on this vision. He expressed excitement for The Batman Part 2, noting that the script is currently under development, with early drafts proving encouraging.

The Brave and the Bold is currently in active development, with the storyline progressing well. While Andy Muschietti was initially attached to direct, Safran explained that the script will be finalized before being presented to him to determine its suitability. Gunn confirmed his active involvement in scripting, hinting at further announcements "very soon."

The Batman Part 2’s delay to October 1, 2027, raises questions about The Brave and the Bold’s release. Safran only confirmed that a Batman film is slated for October 2027, leaving the specifics unclear.

Interestingly, a brief glimpse of Batman appeared in Creature Commandos Episode 6, showcasing a familiar silhouette. Gunn explained that this deliberate lack of detail was a conscious creative choice, aiming for a more iconic, less specific portrayal. This cameo confirms Batman's pre-existing presence and established prominence within the DCU, eliminating the need for an origin story. Gunn further hinted at a future team-up between this DCU Batman and Superman, expressing his deep-seated love for the character and excitement for future projects.
