Starbreeze Entertainment announces an offline mode for Payday 3, launching later this month. However, this new mode requires an internet connection, a point of contention following player backlash over the initial lack of offline play.
Payday 3, a sequel to the popular 2011 title Payday: The Heist, emphasizes cooperative gameplay centered around elaborate robberies. The series is known for its robust stealth mechanics and diverse weaponry, offering varied mission approaches. Payday 3 enhanced stealth options, providing players with greater freedom. The upcoming "Boys in Blue" update introduces a new heist and the much-requested offline mode.
The June 27th update introduces the offline mode, initially in beta. While still requiring online connectivity, it eliminates the need for matchmaking, addressing a key player complaint. Future updates will remove the online requirement altogether. This beta mode is part of a broader initiative to enhance the solo experience, which also suffered from the absence of features like The Safehouse.
Payday 3's New Offline Mode
Starbreeze plans to continuously improve the solo mode, aiming for a satisfying solo experience. Almir Listo, Head of Community and Global Brand Director, confirmed ongoing development. Besides the offline mode, the update includes a new heist, free items, and various improvements—a new LMG, three masks, and custom loadout naming.
Payday 3's launch faced significant challenges, including server issues and limited content (only eight heists). Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren apologized for these shortcomings, and subsequent updates have addressed some concerns. Future heist additions, however, will be paid DLC, with Syntax Error costing $10.
