Pokémon Anime Ages Up Main Cast After Nearly 30 Years

Apr 02,2025 Author: Olivia

After 26 years of adventures in the Pokémon anime, the iconic protagonist Ash Ketchum finally bid farewell at the eternal age of 10. Yet, in a surprising twist, The Pokémon Company is now embracing change with Pokémon Horizons by allowing its new protagonists, Liko and Roy, to age.

The latest CoroCoro magazine unveiled the upcoming arc of Pokémon Horizons, titled Mega Voltage, which introduces a significant "time skip." This leap forward will age Liko and Roy by approximately three years, accompanied by new character designs that showcase their growth into more mature and taller individuals.

The burning question on fans' minds is whether we'll see an older Ash Ketchum in this arc or future seasons, sparking widespread speculation and excitement.

The Mega Voltage arc will reintroduce Mega Evolutions, aligning with their return in the game Pokémon Legends: Z-A. We'll also witness Liko's Floragato evolving into Meowscarada, while Roy will boast a shiny mega Lucario.

However, fans have noticed the absence of Friede, the captain of the Rising Volt Tacklers, in the reveal. His Pikachu is shown wearing Friede's goggles, which appear to be cracked, hinting at a possible unfortunate event involving Friede.

Our review of Pokémon Horizons Season 2 gave it a 5/10, critiquing its failure to fully leverage its potential. Here's hoping the time skip revitalizes the narrative and brings fresh dynamism to the Rising Volt Tacklers' journey.
