Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

The Pokémon Company has confirmed it currently has no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit. This article explores the reasons behind this decision and looks ahead to the future of the game.

Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Competitive Scene (Yet)

No Immediate Plans for Competitive Play

In a recent interview with VGC (February 25, 2025), Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, stated that while they constantly evaluate potential additions to their competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't currently on the roadmap. He playfully mentioned Pokémon Sleep as another example, referencing a previous April Fool's joke about a Pokémon Sleep championship, before reiterating that there are no current plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket's competitive inclusion.

Early Stages and Balancing Concerns

While no official reasons have been given, fan speculation points to the game's relative youth (only four months old, with two sets released since its October 2024 launch) and ongoing balancing issues. Although the app includes competitive features, players have voiced concerns about balance inconsistencies. Compared to the original Pokémon TCG, Pokémon TCG Pocket is a simplified version, prioritizing accessibility over a hardcore competitive experience.

Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains vibrant, featuring events for Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all culminating in the Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, in August 2025.
