In 2020, a fan of Batman: Arkham Knight with schizophrenia reached out to Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice behind Batman, through the Cameo service. The fan, deeply touched by the game's narrative of Batman overcoming fears, paranoia, and hallucinations, saw it as a mirror to his own battles with the illness. He shared his story with Conroy, hoping for a standard 30-second message. However, Conroy, moved by the fan's vulnerability and the impact of the game on his life, responded with over six minutes of heartfelt encouragement.
The fan shared on Reddit how this video became a lifeline during his darkest moments. "This video has saved me from suicide countless times," he wrote. "Hearing Batman say he believed in me was incredibly powerful... But as time went on, it became just as important that it was Kevin himself who believed in me."
Initially, the fan was hesitant to share the video publicly. However, upon learning that Conroy had a brother who also suffered from schizophrenia, he decided to post it, hoping it might help others facing similar struggles. "If someone in his family asks me to delete this video, I will of course do so," he added. "But it has inspired me in my toughest moments, and maybe it will inspire someone else. Hang in there. Because Batman believes in you."
Tragically, Kevin Conroy passed away on November 10, 2022, at the age of 66. Yet, his legacy and the profound impact of his words continue to resonate with fans around the globe.
