HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will feature previously cut content from the video game The Last of Us Part II, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann. Druckmann revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the show will incorporate "pretty brutal" scenes, including elements from the game's "Lost Levels," partially restored in the PS5 remaster. These levels, including Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer a range of tones, from the relatively calmer party and boar hunt sequences to the intense horror of Ellie's encounter with monsters in the Seattle sewers.

The inclusion of this cut content promises a gripping viewing experience. Druckmann hinted at the appearance of a previously unshown, "pretty prominent" character, mirroring the introduction of Frank in Season 1.
Season 2 introduces a significant number of new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. Catherine O'Hara's role, however, remains a mystery.
With the premiere of Season 2, Episode 1 slated for April, answers to these mysteries are imminent. However, some plot points may remain unresolved for a considerable time. HBO plans to adapt The Last of Us Part II over multiple seasons, unlike Season 1's adaptation of the first game. Showrunner Craig Mazin explained that Part II's extensive narrative warrants this approach, suggesting a "natural breakpoint" at the end of the seven-episode Season 2, although Season 3 is yet to be confirmed.
