RGG Studio's Ambitious Lineup: Two More Projects on the Horizon

RGG Studio, creators of the acclaimed Like a Dragon series, are not resting on their laurels. Alongside their already announced titles for 2025—a new Like a Dragon game and a Virtua Fighter remake—they're diving into uncharted territory with two more groundbreaking projects. Masayoshi Yokoyama, the studio's head and director, credits Sega's bold approach for enabling this expansive creative vision. Sega's willingness to venture beyond safe bets is what fuels RGG Studio's innovation.
In a thrilling December reveal, RGG Studio unveiled trailers for two distinct projects within the same week. At The Game Awards 2025, they introduced Project Century, a fresh IP set in 1915 Japan. The following day, Sega's official channel showcased the trailer for the new Virtua Fighter Project, separate from the upcoming Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O remaster. Both projects signal RGG's commitment to large-scale, ambitious productions. With a portfolio of iconic IPs, Sega's confidence in RGG Studio's ability to deliver reflects both trust and a drive to explore new frontiers.

Yokoyama shared insights with Famitsu, translated by Automaton Media, highlighting Sega's courage to embrace potential failure: "I think a good aspect of Sega is that it accepts the possibility of failure. It doesn’t just keep pursuing the kind of projects it knows are a safe bet." He emphasized that this risk-taking is part of Sega's DNA. Reflecting on their early days with the Virtua Fighter IP, Sega sought innovation, leading to the birth of the action-adventure series Shenmue after pondering, "What if we made ‘VF’ into an RPG?"
RGG Studio is committed to maintaining high standards despite juggling multiple projects. The Virtua Fighter series, in particular, holds a special place in Sega's legacy, and creator Yu Suzuki has expressed his support for the new project. Yokoyama and Virtua Fighter Project producer Riichiro Yamada are determined to deliver a product that does justice to the iconic IP, with no intention of settling for mediocrity.

Yamada expressed enthusiasm for the new Virtua Fighter project, stating, "With the new ‘VF,’ we intend to create something innovative that a wide range of people will find ‘cool and interesting!’ Whether you're a fan of the series or not, we hope you'll look forward to more information. Stay tuned!" Yokoyama echoed this sentiment, encouraging gamers to anticipate both titles eagerly.
