Garry Newman, creator of Garry's Mod, confirmed to IGN that he received a DMCA takedown notice late last year from parties claiming ownership of the Skibidi Toilet copyright. Newman expressed his surprise on a Discord server, stating, "Can you believe the cheek?" The subsequent online drama surrounding the Skibidi Toilet and Garry's Mod DMCA went viral. While Newman has stated the issue is resolved, the identity of the party who sent the DMCA remains undisclosed.
The DMCA targeted user-created content within Garry's Mod (a Valve-published game from 2006) featuring characters from the Skibidi Toilet web series, including Titan Cameraman, Titan Speakerman, and Titan TV Man. The sender claimed these characters are registered copyrights and that the unauthorized Garry's Mod content generated substantial revenue.
