Spider-Man 2 Debuts to 'Mixed' Steam Reviews Amid Serious PC Performance Problems

Mar 03,2025 Author: Blake

Spider-Man 2's PC port, initially touted for its impressive performance based on its system requirements, has received a mixed reception on Steam. A significant number of players are reporting various technical problems, resulting in a "mixed" user review rating.

Currently, only 55% of Steam reviews are positive. Many users with high-end GPUs, including those with RTX 4090 cards and the latest Nvidia drivers, are experiencing frequent crashes. Several reports detail the game becoming unplayable due to crashes occurring every few minutes. One user stated, "The game is completely unplayable on PC. The game crashes to desktop every five minutes. I have already requested a refund.” Others echoed similar sentiments, urging potential buyers to wait for stability patches. One review described the experience as exceptionally rough, citing issues such as incompletely loaded lighting in cutscenes, extremely low frame rates in these same scenes, significant audio desynchronization, freezing, stuttering, and a plethora of other performance problems.

A common problem seems to be frequent crashes of the game's graphics controller, even on high-end PCs. A recurring error message indicates potential causes such as outdated drivers, overly demanding in-game settings, GPU overheating, or game-related errors.

PlayFurther complaints include malfunctioning DLSS and ray tracing features, lengthy loading times, missing textures, and persistent audio problems. Some players have also reported performance stutters escalating into crashes after extended gameplay sessions, leading to speculation about a potential memory leak.

Nixxes, the developer responsible for the port, acknowledged the reported crashes on the Steam forums, directing users to their support website for troubleshooting guides. They've also addressed a specific bug impacting photo-op missions, suggesting that maintaining a framerate above 20 FPS is crucial to avoid this issue. Lowering graphics settings or resolution is suggested as a temporary solution.
