If early reports are to be believed, we may have caught a sneak peek at the title of The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel—sooner than expected. An NBCUniversal press release initially revealed what appeared to be the name "Super Mario World" as one of Universal Pictures and Illumination's upcoming films slated for streaming on Peacock.
This detail didn't stay live for long. Shortly after appearing online, the mention of "Super Mario World" was quietly removed from the press release, likely due to an early leak or miscommunication.

Interestingly, the original text listed “Super Mario World” alongside “Shrek” and “Minions.” Considering that Shrek 5 and Minions 3 are already confirmed titles under those franchises, it’s possible that “Super Mario World” was not the final official title but rather a working or umbrella term.
Still, compared to a generic reference like "Super Mario" or "Super Mario Bros.", "Super Mario World" feels more specific and intentional. If accurate, it would make perfect sense thematically and narratively for a sequel—especially following the success of the first film.
