Nintendo is carefully considering several factors to determine the Switch 2's price. While analysts predict a $400 price point for the anticipated late 2024 release, Nintendo remains tight-lipped.
In a recent investor Q&A, President Shuntaro Furukawa acknowledged the significant changes in inflation and exchange rates since the original Switch's 2017 launch. He emphasized the need to balance these economic factors with consumer expectations for Nintendo products. While he couldn't disclose a specific price, he confirmed a multifaceted approach to the pricing decision.

The original Switch's $299.99 launch price remained consistent for years. However, competitors Sony and Microsoft have raised their console prices due to rising costs and inflation. Analysts' $400 prediction represents a $100 increase from the original Switch's launch price (a price Nintendo still maintains outside of sales). The Switch OLED model currently sits at $350, and the Switch Lite at $200. Given anticipated improvements in power and features, a $400 price for the Switch 2 seems plausible.

A dedicated Switch 2 Direct is scheduled for April 2nd, promising a closer look at the console. The initial reveal showcased the console's design, hinted at Mario Kart 9, and teased a potential "mouse" mode for the new Joy-Cons. However, many questions remain, including the functionality of a mysterious new Joy-Con button, the console's processing power, and the purpose of its new ports. Nintendo will also host hands-on events globally.
Furukawa confirmed that the original Switch's price will remain unchanged despite the Switch 2's launch.
