Happy New Year! Welcome to 2025, and congratulations on surviving another complete orbit around our fiery solar companion. As we kick off the new year, it's the perfect time to preview the most anticipated video game releases slated for 2025. Here's a rundown of the biggest games we know about so far:
January 2025
Dynasty Warriors: OriginsOn January 17, Tecmo Koei brings back its iconic musou series with Dynasty Warriors: Origins, marking the first full entry since 2018. Harnessing the power of current-generation hardware, this game promises to fill your screen with hordes of enemies for you to mow down while shouting the iconic battlecry, "DIE, NASTY WARRIORS!" Available on PS5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC.
If long-distance combat is more your style, Sniper Elite: Resistance launches on January 30, continuing its tradition of precision shooting and, yes, those infamous Nazi groin shots. This latest addition sticks to its tried-and-true formula, which is hard to criticize when it involves such satisfyingly gruesome takedowns. You'll find it on all Xbox and PlayStation platforms, as well as PC.
February 2025
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? It's neither, but Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is certainly a Bohemian rhapsody, continuing the epic journey of Henry of Skalitz on February 11. This historical RPG immerses you in 14th-century Bohemia with deep role-playing and an expansive open world where your choices shape your adventure. Available on current-gen consoles and PC.
On the same day, Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 offers a grand strategy experience across millennia. Guiding your civilization through history by exploring, expanding, exploiting, and excelling, this game has evolved over three decades. It's coming to nearly every platform, including Linux, but not mobile—yet.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows arrives on February 14, taking Ubisoft’s beloved series to feudal Japan. With dual protagonists, you can experience life as both a ninja and a samurai. Available on current-gen consoles and PC.
For those spending Valentine's Day solo, Date Everything! launches on the same day, offering a sandbox dating sim where you can romance over 100 inanimate objects, including a potential sandbox. It's fully voice-acted and available on PS5, Xbox Series consoles, Switch, and PC.
Monster Hunter WildsOn February 18, Avowed from Obsidian Entertainment hits Xbox Series consoles and PC. Set in the same universe as the Pillars of Eternity series but with a first-person perspective and real-time action combat, it promises a focused RPG experience akin to The Outer Worlds.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii sails onto Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on February 21. Following Goro Majima's new life as a pirate after amnesia strikes, this game promises a wild adventure.
Monster Hunter Wilds caps off February on the 28th, arriving on Xbox Series, PS5, and PC. Capcom aims to refine the core experience while introducing new features to attract both veteran hunters and newcomers.
March 2025
Split FictionOn March 6, Split Fiction from Hazelight invites you into a co-op adventure where a sci-fi and fantasy author gets trapped in virtual reality. With bizarre transformations and adventures, including turning into pigs and then hot dogs, this game supports online play for two with just one copy. Available on PC and current-gen consoles.
On March 25, Tales of the Shire offers a cozy life sim centered on the everyday lives of hobbits. Enjoy gardening, pipe-smoking, and neighborhood rivalries in this peaceful corner of Middle-earth. Available on PS5, Xbox Series consoles, Switch, and PC.
AtomfallAtomfall, launching on March 27, blends the pastoral English countryside with a post-nuclear disaster setting, drawing inspiration from Fallout and Stalker. It emphasizes survival over role-playing and comes to all platforms except Switch.
Also on March 27, The First Berserker: Khazan expands the Dungeon & Fighter universe with a single-player action RPG. Available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
On March 28, inZOI hits PC, potentially challenging The Sims with its stunning visuals and innovative gameplay. With a strong following and numerous expansions for The Sims 4, this South Korean-developed game could be a major hit. Console versions are planned for later.
April 2025
Fatal Fury: City of the WolvesOn April 24, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves marks the series' return with its first new game this century.
