A Coastal Conflict on the Continent
Netflix Tudum, the official Netflix news source, confirms the release of The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep on February 11, 2025. This animated film adapts Andrzej Sapkowski's short story, "A Little Sacrifice," from Sword of Destiny.
The story unfolds in a coastal village, where a centuries-old conflict between humans and merfolk forces a Continental kingdom to enlist a Witcher's aid. Instead of the usual monsters, Geralt faces a unique challenge – battling merpeople.
Returning to voice Geralt is Doug Cockle. Joey Batey and Anya Chalotra reprise their roles as Jaskier and Yennefer, respectively. Christina Wren (Will Trent) joins the cast as the new character, Essi Daven.
Sapkowski acts as creative consultant, with the screenplay by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin, writers for the live-action series. Kang Hei Chul, storyboard artist for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, directs the film.
A Story Within Season One
The film's timeline fits neatly between episodes 5 and 6 of The Witcher's first season. Following Geralt and Yennefer's reunion in Rinde after the Djinn incident (Episode 5, "Bottled Appetites"), Geralt undertakes a new contract near the coast.
The coastal setting suggests a location bordering Redania and Temeria. Considering the source material, "A Little Sacrifice," the film may be set in Bremervoord City in Temeria, ruled by Duke Agloval. However, the extent to which the film adheres to the short story remains to be seen.
