Get ready for a nostalgic journey! The Lunar Remastered Collection, developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, arrives April 18th. This highly anticipated duology brings the first two Lunar games to modern consoles and PC via Steam, featuring updated graphics, a re-recorded soundtrack, and numerous quality-of-life enhancements.
First announced during a 2024 Sony State of Play, the remaster surprised and delighted JRPG fans. Originally released in 1992 (Lunar: The Silver Star) and 1994 (Lunar: Eternal Blue) for the Sega CD, these titles later received PlayStation and Sega Saturn remakes. Even today, the Lunar series is celebrated as a Sega Saturn RPG masterpiece, making this remastered collection incredibly exciting for longtime fans.
GungHo Online Entertainment confirmed the April 18th launch date for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with compatibility for current-gen consoles. Physical copies will be available in select North American and European stores. Expect widescreen support, revamped pixel art, and high-definition cutscenes. However, a classic mode lets players relive the original PS1-era graphics.
The Lunar Remastered Collection includes fully voiced dialogue in Japanese and English, plus new French and German subtitles. Gameplay enhancements include sped-up combat and streamlined auto-battle options, features common in modern JRPG remasters like the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster.
This release continues the trend of beloved classic JRPGs finding new life on modern platforms. While the collection's financial success remains to be seen, the positive reception of the Grandia HD Collection (a previous collaboration between Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment) suggests a promising future for this nostalgic revival.
